Healing and Wholeness for the Caregiver

As a caregiver, it is important to also take care of yourself. When your energy feels depleted, take the time to replenish your reserves.  The healing contemplation described here can give you permission to slow down and relax, allowing you necessary time to unwind and renew your strength and spirit.  Go apart for a while and focus on restoring yourself as you think about these words of health & wholeness.

We begin by allowing our self to relax into the chair, knowing that our body is being fully supported.  We breathe deeply, taking in life-giving oxygen.  As we exhale, we release any discomfort, worry, or concern, letting go of all negativity.  We are grateful for this time of rest, of perfect peace, as we embrace the silence.

As our shoulders drop down, and our neck lengthens, we naturally sit up straighter and we find it easier to breathe.  We are grateful for the wholeness of our body… for the constant flow of breath, in and out of our lungs. We follow the breath going in through our nose, lifting our chest and diaphragm, and tummy.  We know that all day long, the breath
will continually support us.  We do not have to remember to breathe or to be concerned about it, for it is an ongoing natural process that occurs with our without our awareness of it. We take this time to say thank you to our lungs, for the gift of breath and the life it gives us. We feel each organ in our body being rejuvenated by the healing breath of Life.  Each tiny cell is expanding in a continuous dance, as the breath comes in to the body, delivering what is needed, cleansing us, and then releasing as we exhale.

We express gratitude to our body, knowing that each section is doing its perfect part to support the whole.  And we breathe…

We ask our mind to let go of any random thoughts… to just notice them as they come up, and then let them go, as we return our attention to the peace within.  We know that our
thoughts create our experience and so in this moment, in spite of any appearance, we nurture our mind by being open to accepting and acknowledging our good health.  This knowing – that we are whole and healthy– flows throughout our body, reminding each part, of this Truth of their being.  We are grateful for our mind and for its ability to harmonize our thoughts to heal our life.

Our attention moves from our head down to the area of our throat. Our voice speaks words of truth for us and gives us control over what we say. We appreciate our throat for
the ability to convey our thoughts.  We keep watch over what we say, choosing words that flow forth with courage and support, with love and tenderness, with joy and gratitude.
We are blessed in every way by what we say.

We are thankful for our heart, which strongly beats, sending forth our blood to circulate throughout our being.  We ask our self to open our heart more fully, so that we can love
all of creation.  We gratefully accept healing for our heart, seeing it bright red, whole and
complete, pulsing with life.  We see that we can release the pain of the past and embrace a new way of being, when we choose to embody love in all we do.  And so in this moment we make that choice, to let go of our past, and surrender to love.  With each beat of our heart, we feel love pumping throughout our body.  This love reaches into every nook and cranny, soothing, mending, and healing.

And we rest in the breath which is breathing us, and the heart, which is loving us.

We thank our stomach and intestines for obtaining and processing all the nutrients we need for perfect health.  We bless our liver and kidneys for removing toxins from our system.  We express gratitude for our strong structural systems of bones, tendons,
and ligaments, knowing we are always being fully supported.

We bless our senses and focus our attention on seeing the good, hearing what is good, tasting, smelling, and feeling all the good that surrounds us.  We see the beauty in the
clouds above us; we smell the sweet fragrance of flowers in the earth below us; we savor the taste of sweetness within us; we hear and feel the whisper of the wind around us; and we are grateful for these wonderful abilities we can use to experience joy and contentment in our world.

Deep within this state of calm and tranquil gratitude, we uncover the timeless beauty
of simply “being.”  As we enter into this time of silence, we affirm this state of perfect peace, knowing the truth: that we are healed, whole, and healthy.

And we breathe…

and we rest…

As we begin to make the mind’s journey back to this room, we know we will carry this healing peace within us.  At any time, we can recall this feeling of serenity as we go about our daily lives and activities, remembering that love is flowing in us and through us. Each one of us contributes to the peace and harmony of our world. By taking time apart for ourselves to replenish, we can heal our body, our mind, our spirit, and even our world.  We keep these thoughts in mind as we step forward into the time ahead, renewed and refreshed, and ready to meet the day.
